Early College and Career Pathways
The Early College and Career Pathways strand is ideal for students interested in advancing their studies and maximizing preparation for college and a successful future. Students in the “College Academy” at WHSH are scheduled in advanced courses during their ninth grade year in preparation for participation in Dual Enrollment classes at Miami Dade College in the tenth grade. Students interested in this program should have completed Algebra 1 Honors and Physical Science Honors in middle school. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA in core subjects and conduct; attendance and effort are also taken into consideration. College Academy students are required to take at least one Advanced Placement class during their first year of high school. At the end of the ninth grade students will be administered the PERT exam; eligible students will progress into college level coursework on campus at MDC during the tenth grade year while continuing to earn high school credits at WHSH. Please note. an unweighted GPA of 3.0 is required for registration at Miami Dade College.
